Backupanytime.com provide the highest default data
retention period in Ireland. Most other providers offer
a default backup retention period of 30 days. The backupanytime.com
default backup retention period is 365 days and thats
not all. You don't have to limit yourself to our default
settings even if they are the largest on offer. With
backupanytime online backup software you can select
any retention period you wish.
We at backupanytime believe that the common competitor
offering of thirty days default retention is dangerous.
Not alone do you not know in advance when a file, files
or complete drives will be lost but you may not know
till sometime after the event or after the files in
question have become corrupt and been backed up replacing
earlier copies. A thirty day backup retention period
is simply not good enough in that type of situation.
Another scenario is in the event of a virus. Most infections
are set to release their payload gradually or starting
at the occurrence of a predetermined date, time or event.
Seeking through 30 days versions of a file may not offer
much solace never mind recovery if a virus has been
latent for that period or greater.
The reason for this is that required retention periods
vary depending on where you are based, which industry
you are in and your own personal choice. With backupanytime
you can change the default retention period from your
pc, with or without reference to us from the default
365 days up or down to apply to your backup retention
policy.
There is no single answer to this but all or some of
the following may apply.
- Software development is expensive. Some providers
may be using older software from a time when 30 days
was a reasonable or viable default backup retention
period for online backup.
- Some providers are wholly dependent on a distributors
actions and can neither do nor outsource any of their
own development. These types of providers are limited
in the type of service they can provide even if they
know the system they use needs updating.
- Some providers are merely involved in backup as
an added product or service line and their main focus
may be one or many other products and services. This
limits the extent of in house development and investment
in improving quality of service.
None of the above apply to backupanyime. We use best
of breed software and systems. We are not wholly dependent
on any one provider of software, hardware or bandwidth
and we are a specialist backup provider with focus on
providing the best online backup service available.
Take advice from your computer technicians regarding
your data retention period. Then talk to any online
backup companies under consideration. If you are going
to be prudent about your online backup, insist on a
backup data retention period which suites the backup
needs of your company today, not one which was decided
upon for someone else and by someone else in time past.
Require evidence that your chosen data retention period
is in place and be wary of any objections to applying
or demonstrating same.
