Stuff I saw

Stuff I saw.

Posts have been thin on the ground lately. Here is an update of some of the more significant and / or interesting news I have to post.

Tommy Collison wins.

If you don’t know about Tommy Collison of Castletroy College and indeed the Colloson clans’ Young scientist history you must have taken up residence on a different planet. Brilliant story. Great achievement.

Only fair to mention the overall winners! John D. O’Callaghan and Liam McCarthy of Kinsale Community School, Co. Cork. I hope they understand the focus on Tommy is genuine as a large blog and twitter community  have been following him prior to his win. If you follow any Irish blogs you must have heard of him prior to Young Scientist.

Nial Harbison recieves investment.

Nial Harbison (as featured in the real Dragons den) of ifoods.tv (his new personal blog is niallh.com ) has received much deserved funding. Good to see that someone is having good financial news of late. Nial is very active online and is known to be generous with advice and ideas. Good on ye.

Blacknight go Bananas giving away stuff. (should it read “stuff away”? Does it matter?)

Just follow http://twitter.com/bksolutions to participate. They ask questions and you try to answer before Paul Savage. It’s actually just first to answer but Paul has a history of winning things. (Example SEO competition)

I need to make some decisions about twitter.

I have started to really like twitter. Initially I wasn’t too sure what it was about and only joined up to ensure the backupanytime name was not taken. I started using it. Initially I saw it as a silly display of follower numbers, later as a ratio of followers/friends, subsequently as a potential marketing tool. Now I think I get it. It is none of the above. It is a way of following the ideas and actions of good (or indeed bad) people. I may start my own personal twitter account as I am enjoying it and some of the banter is not appropriate to being said as from “Backupanytime”. If you tweet you know what I mean. If you don’t you should try.

I used to use the ifoods account but people dont trust companies so it is better to be yourself i’d say as you’ll get more out of it. Thanks for the mention :)

Hi John, I did win, but I blame my Crackberry (new toy this week) for keeping me connect to the web 24/7.

You should be able to change your name in twitter, and not loose all the followers. Just go to http://twitter.com/account/settings and change your username there.

    Paul
