PutPlace have put pricing in place
PutPlace ran a long and generous beta. The quality and innovation attributable to the service should make the client move from happy beta to formal client an obviousness where the smart money is concerned.

PutPlace have a very open and outward looking attitude to business. This type of wording is used commonly but in this case it’s for real. Joe Drumgoole was recently asked by Tom O’Connor from databackup.ie about his pricing policy. The essence of the question was how it was possible to make the service so affordable. Tom also explained in frank format that he would not be offended if he was told this was none of his business. I can assure that we were just as curious as Tom and while not brave enough to ask we hung around for the answer.

Joe however ignorded the offered caveat regarding not answering and answered in as frank and open a manner as I reckon is possible. I won’t provide the details or URL here but I am providing a link to the PutPlace retail pricing page. If you want specific information about PutPlace costs you should contact them directly.

Suffice to say, the maths are lean and offer the consumer serious economy of scale benefits. This obviously requires significant uptake and some accuracy regarding actual account usage percentages. Given the length and success of the beta and the decision to announce it is ending, it would seem likely that these requirements are being achieved. We all wanted an answer. We got one. It put us in our place.

IE8 Beta - Long awaited but looks promising.

Friday, August 29th, 2008

After the release of IE7 Microsoft claimed that Internet explorer updates would be more frequent and hinted that these updates could be as frequent as every six to nine months. It is not far off two years since IE7 was released in beta format and the beta of IE8 has just become available.

I downloaded it today. Much too early to form an opinion let alone report any findings but that I will do as soon as is practical.

Please know this;

Beta downloads are exactly that. You should not download them on mission critical systems regardless of the source.

Even if a beta is stable and does not cause any issues it may be incomplete so any feature report based on beta usage may not be accurate based on a final release.

Beta releases may be upgraded so a beta release tested by you today mar result in a very different experience by someone downloading tomorrow.

If you want to take a test drive (and you have nominated a system specifically for this) go to

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/default.aspx

I will report back next week on my experience.
