Putting photos and images in WordPress

Regular visitors will be aware that there are no images used in this blog. This I want to change. I bought an image library and have flagged particular images as appropriate to past posts. The next step is to actually put these images online. I found the standard image management system in the latest version of word press to be lacking feature wise and cumbersome for those features it includes and went in search of a plug in to manage my post images.
I can’t complain about the number of images management plugins I found. There is a very wide choice of wordpress image plugins and blog photo management plugins. This next predictable issue is which one to use.
So, can anyone advise as to which plugin is suited to image management in a small WpordPress blog?
Also, where is a good place to acquire free images for a blog. The volume I purchased was inexpensive and comes with an enormous amount of pictures but just in case I need a photo related to a post and cant find it in my offline library, where is a good place to look? Ideally I would want small high quality photos which can be used on a blog royalty free.
