Bill Gates departs Microsoft for greater challenges.

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Unless you have been on an vacation in a different Galaxy, you will be aware that Bill Gates is leaving Microsoft. He is not however heading for a cushy retirement. Neither does he intend the rest of his life to involve the type of self indulgence he could well afford and many would wish for. No, Bill is going to give his time to the Gates foundation to which he has already given billions of dollars.

He and his wife Melinda are on a mission to change the world for many. Their ability and money should be good equipment for the arderous but rewarding task ahead. No matter what you think of Bill Gates, (and opinions at both extreems of the spectrum are abound) it would be very difficult to criticise his new life for that is what it is. He is moving from a dominant position in a cut throat but highly rewarding capitalist market to an altruistic world of both partonage and hard work.

His zeal for success, world wide contacts (in business and politics), energy and money may even change the world and will certainly change the lives of many.

So, no matter your opinion on windows v linux, oligopoly, monopoly, anti-trust, capitalism, agressive take overs, operating system product bundling, billionaires and techno nerds, surely you can wish Bill the best in his new job.

It is common and possibly good practice to provide a link to institutions you post about. Even more so in the case of a positive and optimistic story. Maybe I should include a link to Microsoft here but I just cant bring myself to to it. I wonder if Steve Ballmer will change all that. In the interim, here is a link to the Gates foundation to which I am certain we all wish great success.
