This document has been written to address the issues of the persons to call and steps involved when running a disaster recovery with the backupanytime software. If you are not a backupanytime client you are welcome to read on but please understand that the scope of "disaster recovery" is too wide for one document to include all scenarios and this document is specifically written for the benefit of those covered by the backupanytime online backup system.

When disaster recovery is not needed.

You do not need to use the backupanytime disaster recovery feature to restore files to a functional system. To do this all you have to do is redirect restored files, chose restore. Then pick your files, file types or dates. Please contact support before you act if you have any concerns. Remember, phone support is unlimited for backupanytime clients and you will not incur any additional charges for calling support.

When disaster recovery is needed.

If your computer is completely destroyed or stolen you can use the disaster recovery feature to retrieve your files on a new system.

Again, we would like you to involve support in this.

Preliminary steps.

1 Do not panic. You have procedures in place. Act procedurally.

2 Inform all interested parties that you have I.T. issues and you will update them.

3 Have your security information in front of you and call backupanytime.

Steps involved to run disaster recovery.(Please do this while talking to backupanytime support)

The procedure is as follows.

Reload the software. The best source for this is our website as any media you have may pertain to older versions. All of our software is backwards compatible but you may as well use the latest version available. If you dot know which version you run, contact support and they will know.

During the install, the system will ask if you are a new client or an existing client running a disaster recovery. Choose disaster recovery. You will be asked for your security information. On providing this, the system will authenticate your system with our server. Indexing will begin to make files available to you. This process does not take long as it does not involve transfer of your data, just indexing so your new system can become aware of what backups are available to you. When this completes, you can restore as normal. Restore of all data or considerably large quantities may take some time online. Backupanytime's bit level backup clients may find restore very fast if their local bit store is intact. If your broadband is down and you do not have bit level backup or a local bit level backup store, you can avail of our "man in van" service to make the data available. If you are not in a backupanytime data store location (time of print Ireland, and U.S.) we can have the data securely (only you have the encryption code) transferred to a data centre near you or shipped on request. Alternatively you could have your broadband provider up your service account level temporarily to allow once off bulk transfer.

"Where there is a backup there is a way"

Backupanytime, its' what we do that makes the difference

If you would like to avail of a system which makes disaster recovery as simple as described above, please contact backupanytime.
